Have you ever left the salon feeling like you wished you had asked more questions?
We found a few minutes to sit down with salon manager Sam who has been at Vixen and Blush for almost 10 years! She will be sharing her top tips for keeping your extensions looking their best and giving us the answers to the most asked questions in the salon. Keep reading to get in the know..
You always want to start with scrubbing the halo section of your head where there are no hair extensions. Where the extensions show you just want to gently stroke through the hair, always aiming downwards with no circular motions as that can cause the extensions to get tangled.
How do I curl my hair extensions with straighteners?
You start with the straightener facing downwards and twist 180 degrees slowly sliding down the hair while always going away from the face.
How long does my natural hair need to be to have hair extensions?
Ideally below your jaw, any shorter than that we couldn’t do a lot to extend the length, but we can thicken the hair. If you want the extensions for length, then below the jaw is the shortest it should be so that the blend looks natural.
My hair needs trimming, should I have this done before I come in for my appointment?
Our trims are a complimentary service that we do so we can create a soft look that blends well with extensions. We recommend always having your trims done in our salon.
Can I go swimming with my hair extensions?
Yes, you can swim with your extensions in. You just want to make sure when you do go swimming that you always wash, and blow dry your hair after. If you’re on holiday rinse the chlorine out of your hair as much as you can to prevent discolouring.

Sarah McKenna is the founder of Vixen & Blush and The London Hair Lab. Sarah graduated as a research biochemist in 2005 and started a career within the pharmaceutical industry, before becoming a hair extensions expert. In 2010, Sarah gained insight into the hair extensions industry and could see that clients had a very poor value/quality proposition. At that time, poor-quality hair extensions were available, at prohibitively high prices. Sarah left her initial career and set out on a mission to improve the hair extensions industry in the UK, using her research and development skills.
Spending 3 years securing a high-quality and sustainable supply of human hair, Sarah then developed new products and fitting techniques to allow long-term refits of the same hair. In this way, Sarah was able to offer hair extensions services at a more affordable price to clients, while improving the quality of the service for her clients.
With Vixen & Blush starting in 2012 as a 1 chair salon in London, Sarah quickly grew the business to what it is today, a team of more than 20 hair professionals working together as London’s leading hair extensions specialists.
