Hair Extensions Pros and Cons

Have you been thinking of getting hair extensions but have been getting mixed messages as to the pros and cons?

We are on hand to give you all the information you need to make an educated decision!

If you’ve not had hair extensions before it can be confusing to work out which method would help achieve your desired look. At Vixen & Blush we are the home of natural looking hair extensions and offer 5 different methods in our salon – Bonds, Micro Rings, Tape, Weft & Clip In.

Whether you are after a quick fix for an event or want a longer lasting method, our stylists are on hand to ensure your hair dreams become a reality.

Our hair extension methods

The most popular method at Vixen & Blush is Micro Rings, they are a permanent method so you only have to come in for a refit every 3 months. They are safe, reusable and super discreet.

We are excited to have recently launched the weft method. This is a quick and reusable method perfect for those seeking longer fuller hair while still controlling their budget.

Tape is another very popular hair extension method here at Vixen & Blush. It’s a long-term affordable method giving you hair goals without breaking the bank! They are super comfortable, wearable and you can refit the same hair many many times. We have clients who wear their hair for 2 years and only need to change for a colour update.

We also offer Klarna pay in 3 to help spread the cost of your extensions interest free! This can be applied to any of the methods in the salon and also be used online.

We have put together a handy list of pros and cons to help you figure out if hair extensions are right for you and answer the most asked questions.

pros and cons of hair extensions

Pro – Extensions add volume and fullness to your hair.

If you have naturally fine or greasy hair you will know how impossible it is to add lasting volume using products. Even the most vigorous backcombing will be flat in a matter of hours! Say goodbye to limp, lifeless hair with hair extensions! They help to thicken out fine hair and give you a fullness that lasts.

Con – Extensions can be high maintenance

At Vixen & Blush we use the best quality hair extensions from The London Hair Lab, by choosing high quality, natural hair it may cost a little more at the beginning but it can be refitted many times making it cost effective in the long term! It’s important to take care of your hair extensions properly, we ensure to give you all the maintenance and after care advice you need to ensure you have that just stepped out of the salon feeling everyday. You can still style your hair as you did before and create even more voluminous and intricate looks that last!

Pro – Extensions are long lasting.

Depending which hair extension method you opt for they can last around 3-4 months. When the time comes to get your hair refitted it costs half the amount. With the correct care you can reuse your hair extensions multiple times.

Con – Extensions are always noticeable.

We’ve all seen pictures of hair extension disasters and no one wants to emulate that look! This can easily be avoided by going to a specialist trained salon. At Vixen & Blush all of our stylists are trained specifically in hair extensions and that’s what they do all day every-day!

Pro – Extensions come in different shades

Hair extensions come in multiple different shades and colours. We match all the different tones in your hair and ensure a seamless natural colour match. By having lowlights and highlights it adds dimension to your hair and creates a gorgeous effortless look, having hair extensions will be your best kept secret!

Con – Extensions will damage my natural hair

If you pull at your hair extensions or leave them in too long, you could cause damage to your hair. However here at Vixen & Blush we ensure you have all the correct maintenance advice and knowledge to help you care for your hair extensions yourself. By using the correct shampoos and styling advice your natural hair will grow and be better than it was before. A lot of our clients use hair extensions to help grow out their natural hair. You use a lot less heat styling as hair extensions hold a style for days giving your natural hair a break.

Sarah Mckenna

Sarah McKenna is the founder of Vixen & Blush and The London Hair Lab. Sarah graduated as a research biochemist in 2005 and started a career within the pharmaceutical industry, before becoming a hair extensions expert. In 2010, Sarah gained insight into the hair extensions industry and could see that clients had a very poor value/quality proposition. At that time, poor-quality hair extensions were available, at prohibitively high prices. Sarah left her initial career and set out on a mission to improve the hair extensions industry in the UK, using her research and development skills.

Spending 3 years securing a high-quality and sustainable supply of human hair, Sarah then developed new products and fitting techniques to allow long-term refits of the same hair. In this way, Sarah was able to offer hair extensions services at a more affordable price to clients, while improving the quality of the service for her clients.

With Vixen & Blush starting in 2012 as a 1 chair salon in London, Sarah quickly grew the business to what it is today, a team of more than 20 hair professionals working together as London’s leading hair extensions specialists.
