Tape extensions are a very popular method at Vixen and Blush as they are a semi-permanent method which is reusable and super discreet.

One of the best parts of having tape hair extensions is the fact that if they are cared for correctly, they can last between 6-8 weeks. That’s 2 months of fabulous, long, and thick locks. After that time, you can come into the salon for your refit which is charged at a discounted cost. Visit our prices page to find out the full price list of all our extension methods.

To ensure your extensions are kept in the best condition you need to follow the correct aftercare and maintenance advice. Once you have had your tape extensions applied be sure to wait 24-48 hours before washing your hair, this allows the adhesive enough time to adhere to your natural hair and hold tighter.

High quality hair extensions

If you’re new to the world of hair extensions, we have a few top tips on how to wash your hair extensions:

  1. Before washing your hair, start at the ends and brush out any tangles with a Tangle Teaser.
  2. Make sure you wash your hair in the shower (never the bath)
  3. Make sure you are using salon quality shampoo, it’s important that your shampoo cleanses your root area well and doesn’t leave a build-up of product or too much moisture at the root as this could lead to your tape extensions slipping. If you want to know more about products, we recommend visit our blog post.
  4. Use a clarifying or volume shampoo and lather the shampoo on top of your head where there are no extensions.
  5. Use downward strokes only on the hair extension connections and do not scrub or rub.
  6. Use a conditioner on the mid lengths and ends of your hair.
  7. Never put your head upside down, this means that you cannot wrap your hair in a turban

Now that you are a pro at washing your hair extensions we have 2 top tips for how to dry your extensions:

  1. Make sure your hair extensions have been dried at the root and don’t leave your hair wet for long periods of time.
  2. Blow-dry your hair using your fingers until your hair is 80% dry. Brushing your hair aggressively when wet can lead to loss of extensions.

Caring for hair extensions isn’t that much different to caring for your own hair and doesn’t require that much more time, just make sure you follow our 3 golden rules:

  • No pulling
  • No oily roots
  • No upside-down head
