You are in safe hands at Vixen & Blush, our focus is on caring for your natural hair.
Have you been wondering what actually happens at a removal appointment of hair extensions? We are on hand to talk you through the key steps and answer any frequently asked questions we get asked in the salon!
Do hair extensions damage your own hair?
You are in safe hands at Vixen and Blush, our focus is on caring for your natural hair. We use the best quality hair extension from The London Hair Lab and all our stylists are very experienced hairdressers who specialise in hair extensions. We maintain your hair throughout having your extensions fitted and removed and ensure you have all the maintenance advice and follow up you need to care for your new hair extensions.
Will I lose any of my own hair during removal?
We naturally shed hair every day, it’s a natural process. As your hair extensions will have been fitted for a considerable amount of time, up to 3 months depending on the method the natural hair shedding will have been held in place by the bonds. At the removal you will see these hairs being released and will fall away. There is nothing to be alarmed about as your hair will look the same as it did prior to having hair extensions fitted.
How does damage happen at the removal process?
Damage from hair extensions happens when an inexperienced or under qualified technician is involved or if the hair extensions have been left in for over the recommend wear time and not been cared for properly. The removal process is just as important as the fitting and its key to take the time to do it right. With the best professional products and qualified experienced hair extensionists damage shouldn’t be a problem.
Should I have a break in between having hair extensions fitted?
There is no benefit to giving your hair a rest in between fittings. Its’ a surprise to many but hair extensions when applied properly can help your own hair to grow and become healthier.
If you have your hair extensions fitted by a hair extension professional, they will not damage your hair! You don’ t need to take breaks but if you feel like not wearing your extensions for a while you can keep your hair aside and have it refitted at a later date.
How do you remove Micro Ring Hair Extensions?
Micro Ring hair extensions are a very popular method in our central London salon. It’s a reusable method with a wear time of 3 months. Individual strands of hair are fitted to the client’s own hair using a small metal ring. No heat or glue is used to attach the strands or remove them. The metal ring is clamped closed to secure to new hair in place. To remove the Micro Rings, you simply open the metal micro ring to release the strand which can then be re fitted.
How do you remove Tape extensions?
Tape extensions are a semi-permanent method that last for up to 6 weeks and then can be re-fitted. Our in house lab – The London Hair Lab have developed their own removal gel and spray to be used with tape extensions. This is sprayed onto the top of the tape and allows the stylists to slide the tape out leaving no residue. The tape extensions can then be re-taped and re fitted.
Can you remove and reuse bonds?
Micro Bonds are a permanent method with a wear time of 3 months, they are great method for those with finer hair types who aren’t suitable for other hair extension methods. Micro Bond extensions can’t be reused so new hair is needed each time.

Sarah McKenna is the founder of Vixen & Blush and The London Hair Lab. Sarah graduated as a research biochemist in 2005 and started a career within the pharmaceutical industry, before becoming a hair extensions expert. In 2010, Sarah gained insight into the hair extensions industry and could see that clients had a very poor value/quality proposition. At that time, poor-quality hair extensions were available, at prohibitively high prices. Sarah left her initial career and set out on a mission to improve the hair extensions industry in the UK, using her research and development skills.
Spending 3 years securing a high-quality and sustainable supply of human hair, Sarah then developed new products and fitting techniques to allow long-term refits of the same hair. In this way, Sarah was able to offer hair extensions services at a more affordable price to clients, while improving the quality of the service for her clients.
With Vixen & Blush starting in 2012 as a 1 chair salon in London, Sarah quickly grew the business to what it is today, a team of more than 20 hair professionals working together as London’s leading hair extensions specialists.
