Need help with styling your gorgeous hair extensions? We’ve got your back, let’s go through some advice and guidance on how to style your hair extensions.
Hair extensions are so versatile! There is so many ways to style and glam them up. We asked Team Vixen to tell us their favourite extensions friendly hairstyles.

Brodie’s Top Pick
To start we asked our senior stylist Brodie to let us know what hairstyle she’s been rocking recently, “I love a boho low down look, think the Pamela Anderson messy bun but lower”.
A lot of our clients love a messy bun but feel worried that extensions may restrict that, is that true?
“You can wear extensions in most hairstyles, I’ve never felt restricted with my hair extensions. With styling your hair, you want to follow the direction of the extensions instead of lifting them up, that would be the only thing I would say to be careful of, not putting tensions on the extensions.”
Following the natural direction of your extensions is key to having healthy hair that will last a long time, following the direction that isn’t natural can lead to pulling and causing tension on the hair.

Olivia’s Top Pick
“People may think this is boring, but I just love a classic down hairstyle. Either a big blowout or a classy wave, you can do basically whatever with hair extensions, but I just think down looks so good for everyone” says stylist Olivia.
“You can make so many types of curls and waves with hair extensions, it’s really quite fun. With extensions they tend to hold a curl really well so curls can look good for days at a time due to the hair slowly falling into a subtle wave”.
We love a classic curl and a beachy wave at Vixen and Blush, but we know it can be hard to create it from home. To recreate Olivia’s big curly transformations all you need to do is follow 4 steps:
- Step 1- Grab yourself a straightener (we love the GHD straighteners)
- Step 2- Section your hair to make smaller pieces to get the best curls possible.
- Step 3- Curl the hair from the mid-length to the ends, avoid the root as it could damage your extensions.
- Step 4- Finally to finish off add a quick spray of hairspray we recommend the Redken Quick Dry 18 Instant Finishing Hairspray to hold that curl all day long.

Katie’s Top Pick
Now, what insights does our senior stylist Katie have to share? As an expert with years of experience in the world of hair extensions, Katie has seen it all—let’s hear her top styling choices! “To be honest, I do love a classic blow dry look. Smoothing it all out and creating volume with a little curl on the end. I’m also a big fan of a half up, half down too, it’s such a cute way to add a little something special to your look.”
Regardless of what length hair you have, a half up half down is the perfect way to spice up your look and draw attention to your hair. You can even add fun accessories such as a claw clamp or a bow to tie your whole look together, making it the perfect hairstyle for any event whether it be a wedding or a night out with the girls.

Sarah McKenna is the founder of Vixen & Blush and The London Hair Lab. Sarah graduated as a research biochemist in 2005 and started a career within the pharmaceutical industry, before becoming a hair extensions expert. In 2010, Sarah gained insight into the hair extensions industry and could see that clients had a very poor value/quality proposition. At that time, poor-quality hair extensions were available, at prohibitively high prices. Sarah left her initial career and set out on a mission to improve the hair extensions industry in the UK, using her research and development skills.
Spending 3 years securing a high-quality and sustainable supply of human hair, Sarah then developed new products and fitting techniques to allow long-term refits of the same hair. In this way, Sarah was able to offer hair extensions services at a more affordable price to clients, while improving the quality of the service for her clients.
With Vixen & Blush starting in 2012 as a 1 chair salon in London, Sarah quickly grew the business to what it is today, a team of more than 20 hair professionals working together as London’s leading hair extensions specialists.
