Best thing about being part of the Vixen & Blush team?

We are a close team and the buzz in the salon in amazing! The salon itself is also in a stunning location, not far from Oxford Street.

Why did you want to get into the beauty industry?

I love doing beauty and hair treatments on myself and trying anything new that comes out, through that I developed a passion for it!

Why did you decide to become a hair extension specialist?

For years I only did colour and cuts and I really enjoy that but there’s only so much of a transformation you can give people, hair extensions can give a bigger transformation which I love.

What is your favourite part of hairdressing?

I love so much about hairdressing that it’s hard to pick one favourite. Making people feel confident is a big one, I also love interacting with new people every day and just being creative. I love giving people their dream hair!

Can you share a memorable experience or client transformation that stands out to you?

One of my clients had severe bleach damage and had had a lot of her length chopped off to remove the damage, she came to see what we could do and was so happy with the outcome! She now comes back regularly, and her hair is healthier than it’s ever been.

Where do you look for hair inspiration?

Social media is the place to look for all the newest hair trends, I love watching Chris Appleton for the latest techniques and styles!

What are your favourite brands/ products to work with in the salon?

I love the Dream Cocktail leave in conditioner it has a powerful, nutrient-rich formula that strengthens and protects your hair, leaving it smooth, soft and full of healthy shine!

What is your favourite style to do on your hair?

I love doing a sleek straight look on myself with the ends curved under slightly.

What is your top tip for a good hair care routine at home?

My personal routine is a serum treatment or mask before washing which I leave on for about 20 minutes. A clarifying shampoo and then a nice moisturising conditioner on the mid lengths and ends followed by a leave in conditioner. Then I always blow dry my hair.

How long have you had extensions/ which method do you have?

I’ve had extensions since I was 17, I’ve had all different methods and have gone on a journey with my hair. I started with Micro Bonds and then moved to different methods once my hair was more suitable. I now have tape extensions and absolutely love them.

How do you ensure that clients feel comfortable and confident during their appointment?

Listen and then talk. Listen to their concerns and hair goals and then talk through everything clearly!

Sarah Mckenna

Sarah McKenna is the founder of Vixen & Blush and The London Hair Lab. Sarah graduated as a research biochemist in 2005 and started a career within the pharmaceutical industry, before becoming a hair extensions expert. In 2010, Sarah gained insight into the hair extensions industry and could see that clients had a very poor value/quality proposition. At that time, poor-quality hair extensions were available, at prohibitively high prices. Sarah left her initial career and set out on a mission to improve the hair extensions industry in the UK, using her research and development skills.

Spending 3 years securing a high-quality and sustainable supply of human hair, Sarah then developed new products and fitting techniques to allow long-term refits of the same hair. In this way, Sarah was able to offer hair extensions services at a more affordable price to clients, while improving the quality of the service for her clients.

With Vixen & Blush starting in 2012 as a 1 chair salon in London, Sarah quickly grew the business to what it is today, a team of more than 20 hair professionals working together as London’s leading hair extensions specialists.
