Spring Summer 2017: The Ponytail

If you religiously follow Fashion Week each season, or completely avoid all of the high end trends, eventually these filter down and at some point you’ll find yourself rocking a look that started on a catwalk in Paris, or Milan, or London.. you get the idea. This prompted me to take a look at what went down with the hair rather than the clothing for Spring Summer 17, giving me some major clues as to what’s going to be big this year. First stop, ponytails.

Finally! Something that we can actually achieve at home! The simple up-do is making a serious statement this year and luckily you won’t need an NVQ in Hairdressing to give it a go yourself. If you want to get creative, there are lots of little things you can try to really give your ponytails a bit more life. Knotting and braiding, getting creative with a backcombing brush and last but certainly not least hair extensions can really take you to the next level.

A limp ponytail is just not something any girl wants is it? Close second is a short ponytail, this isn’t the 90’s, you are not sporty spice. Your ponytail needs to look glamorous with the right amount of volume and hair extensions can get you exactly where you need to be!

Here are our top tips for styling your extensions:

  • You must not tie your hair up into a high ponytail, top knot or high bun. Only low styles.
  • Use any heat styling tools – we advise using big barrel curling wands!
  • Avoid salon blow-dries, these can loosen hair extensions.
  • Spray hairspray onto a brush, comb through. Hair extensions hold a style for a long time, making an effort to style your hair when you wash it means your hair extensions will look good always.

Sarah Mckenna

Sarah McKenna is the founder of Vixen & Blush and The London Hair Lab. Sarah graduated as a research biochemist in 2005 and started a career within the pharmaceutical industry, before becoming a hair extensions expert. In 2010, Sarah gained insight into the hair extensions industry and could see that clients had a very poor value/quality proposition. At that time, poor-quality hair extensions were available, at prohibitively high prices. Sarah left her initial career and set out on a mission to improve the hair extensions industry in the UK, using her research and development skills.

Spending 3 years securing a high-quality and sustainable supply of human hair, Sarah then developed new products and fitting techniques to allow long-term refits of the same hair. In this way, Sarah was able to offer hair extensions services at a more affordable price to clients, while improving the quality of the service for her clients.

With Vixen & Blush starting in 2012 as a 1 chair salon in London, Sarah quickly grew the business to what it is today, a team of more than 20 hair professionals working together as London’s leading hair extensions specialists.
